Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Kenneth B — 17 Oct 2012
Blimey! I'm not sure if I was quite ready for this one. This is one of the more 'out-there' films I've ever seen. I'm not even sure I enjoyed it, in fact I didn't yet in a way I am in awe of it.
Lynch is known for surreal visuals and they are present in Eraserhead in spades yet there's something about the plot, well it's not really a plot, lets say certain events in the film that trouble me.
Perhaps this was just too weird, Lynch would get the balance right for films like Blue Velvet but I'm certain this was an important film in terms of his development as a film-maker. It may well be one that will benefit from a reassessment a few years down the line.
