Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Tamatai N — 30 Jan 2011
An extremely rare explosion of true originality and uncompromising talent, David Lynch's debut feature has lost none of its atmosphere, suspense or intregue since its release in the late 1970s. Possibly one of the finest pieces of dark art of the 20th century, it's easy to see why this film retains such a legendary status.
It's just like watching a nightmare pulled from one's mind and projected onto the screen with an atmosphere unlike any other film. And yes, it's also understandable why some regard it as pretentious crap.
It is, however, undeniably a classic and something every film fan should experience at least once. A personal favourite for me that will always be thrilling and enthralling.
