Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Luke E — 31 May 2015
This film bored me to tears. It is not like I wasn't expecting that to happen, it is just that while it was happening I was regretting my decision to rent this movie. You see, unlike Salvador Dali with his paintings, David Lynch is surreal to be weird and not beautiful. I can not stand the mood of this movie. It was dreadful. There is nothing beautiful about it. Although this is understandable because it is a horror film, I still wish there was something of cinematic beauty to keep me entertained.
I guess that is what this all really comes down too, a lack of entertainment. There was a while in my life where I wanted to try experimental movies and see if I liked them. I have not found that I like any of them. This one I liked the least: do not watch it.
Albeit, if you are a filmmaker I would watch it for the lighting design, mise-en-scene, and originality. Even though it will put you to sleep.
