Review of Island of the Lost (1967) by Michael W — 14 Feb 2014
I wasn't sure who the target audience of this film was when I found a copy in a second hand store bargain bin. The back of the box hails the film as "an action-packed adventure for the entire family" but the front cover features the back of an attractive topless woman clearly intended to lure in a more adult audience.
Once the tape started to roll and I saw early that this film featured a pet seal, I knew this film was more the former. Overall, we get a perilous, but dated, journey for a lost polynesian island with shark sightings, blood-thirsty horned osteriches, tarantulas, a typhoon, and a sunken ship.
Right away, bringing the family along for this seemingly dangerous expedition looked like a poor parenting decision by the professor. Does provide some level of camp value.
