Review of Eraserhead (1977) by Dilla N — 19 Mar 2011
Moody and claustrophobic lighting and cinematography coupled with a unique and oppressive use of sound throughout make this a film of high technical and artistic quality. That said, this is far from a comfortable watch, which in itself is no bad thing but at times I felt parts were made weird for weirdness' sake alone rather than to enhance the film or the story.
The film is also very slow, and there were several times when I felt it dragged. Certainly an interesting document and piece of art within the history of cinema, but ultimately a film I appreciated more than I enjoyed.
This is my first experience of Lynch as a director, however, so I may revisit Eraserhead once I've seen more of his work.
