Review of Equus (1977) by Will G — 05 Oct 2007
Even though this is an adaptation of a Peter Schaffer play, it is nothing like Amadeus. Instead, this 70s exploration of psychiatry, mental instability, and so on is rather quite sensational and intends to shock.
There were several points in the film when I remarked to myself, "This is a stage play? Yikes!" There is some rather fiercely good acting by Richard Burton, Joan Plowright and newcomer Peter Firth that sustain a rather bizarre script.
Be warned: POE make this a not-so-recommended film.
