Review of Equilibrium (2002) by Matt B — 19 Sep 2011
For a movie like "Equilibrium" to work, I need to be convinced (or seduced, or tricked) that the premise at its core works. "Equilibrium" 's core plot device is set up in such a serious, ham-handed way, it stretches credulity in nearly every scene.
From the opening sequence where Christian Bale's gestapo-lite Cleric destroys great art ("...not the...MONA LISA!" the movie implores us to say) to his mini-love scene with a sheltie puppy, I laughed much more heartily that I think Kurt Wimmer would have liked.
Because, ya know, he has something to say.
