Review of Equilibrium (2002) by Troy F — 24 Apr 2012
Equilibrium is best summed up as George Orwell's 1984 mixed with the action from The Matrix, and on an entertainment level... it's pretty awesome! The action is slick and keeps your attention span high, while still managing to chuck out a fairly good plot with effective twists and some noteworthy nods to OF COURSE G.
O.'s 1984, and other sci-fi films like Blade Runner. My slight problem with the film was that it had the potential to be a complex plot but it comes out too easily because it cops out by spelling out emotions for us and not challenging us to interpret them.
So the film is not perfect at all, but otherwise I didn't care much about that. If you want a dystopian film with a bunch of high energy action, you'll like Equilibrium.
