Review of Equilibrium (2002) by Nicholas F — 02 Mar 2014
Equilibrium takes place in the dystopian future in the aftermath of World War 3, where humans take a drug called Prozium that suppresses human emotion leading to a time of peace and no wars. Christian Bale is a Cleric, a trained killer taught to wield guns in a martial art called gun kata and who's job is to hunt down people who are hiding objects that evoke any emotion. This film borrows a lot of elements from dystopian movies, and borrows some action sequences from the Matrix. There is no denying, however, that when the Clerics use gun kata, the scenes become an epic gun fight. The film takes itself too seriously as it would've been better for this film to be a mindless action movie.
Conclusion: Equilibrium rehashes from other sci-fi dystopian films, while creating some great action sequences.
Rating: 3/5.
