Review of Equilibrium (2002) by Jaron G — 27 Sep 2012
If great artists steal, then Equilibrium must be the Leonardo da Vinci of the filmic world. Equilibrium seems to rarely have an original plot concept, and when it does it flits and dashes across the screen so fast we are left blinking in the wake of its passing, wondering what exactly just happened.
That being said, Equilibrium's strengths lie in other areas, such as its intriguing choreography in regards to the unique form of gun kata the characters utilize, or the pleasantly fascistic future artistry.
I would never call Equilibrium a high-caliber science-fiction film, but it certainly fills the (previously unknown) need for a cool movie about unfeeling sci-fi battle monks.
