Review of Equals (2015) by Mariyana A — 15 Nov 2017
Stirring, deep, beautiful and thought provoking.
I have watched this movie at least 5 times already and it is amazing. It definitely makes the top of my list of best movies of all times. If you want a movie, which invites you to think and feel, this is the right one.
People complain that nothing happens - well the birth of love along with all kind of feelings and struggle to hide them happen. And these feelings are presented in a raw and beautiful way. The cinematography is just brilliant, a treat to the eye. Every captured moment is compelling and I had goosebumps throughout the whole movie. Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart are not acting - they are living these feelings.
There are so many parallels with our world you can draw. Certain social norms, prejudices, expectations can hamper emotions and feelings, in effect putting people in a similar position as the characters of this movie. Expressing feelings, showing emotions is often considered a weakness also today.
Every time I watch this movie I feel reborn, able to notice and enjoy in an intense way all the little things that make life amazing, but are taken for granted. Enjoy!
