Review of Entourage (2015) by Michael P — 13 Jun 2015
Entourage takes place shortly after the events of the series finale, with the crew reuniting for more adventures in Hollywood as Vince tries his hand at directing and Ari returns to work as a studio head.
The movie follows many of the same beats presented in the show, with the film feeling like an additional season cut down to fit into a film's runtime. The characters are the same as they always were; dealing with similar issues and providing similar laughs to those in the show. The main plot of the movie involving Vince's directorial debut is just silly and stupid, even more so than some of the show's stories. Most of the other sub-plots especially E's are really idiotic and would ruin any other film. The only story that is somewhat interesting is Turtle's pursuit of Rhonda Rousey which doesn't get large amounts of screen time.
So with poor plot why is the Entourage movie enjoyable? Just like the show it is fun to see the boys hang out. Their misadventures in Hollywood were always entertaining and continued to be throughout the movie. The overflowing amount of cameos were mainly throwaway scenes that offered one or two laughs but some were better than others.
The movie was really entertaining because I am such a big fan of the show. Most of the best moments of the movie were call backs to the show and interest in the characters stemmed from having watched them for 8 seasons. I think it is highly improbable that people who are unfamiliar with the show will love the movie but there are some moments that are still enjoyable. If you were a fan of the show, the movie offers more of the same crammed into a movie runtime.
