Review of Entourage (2015) by Matt H — 12 Aug 2015
An ugly film, and that's coming from a fan of the TV series. Why do they think they need a movie to a popular tv series, just make another season of the show. The movie's like what, three episodes worth of screentime? And that's what much of the film feels like, three episodes hastily put together.
The TV series was never what I'd call a good show, but it was mostly entertaining; kind of the equivalent to a cheesy 90's sitcom, but the structure of the movie doesn't allow for the characters to breath or have any fun other than the normal stock parties and such seen on the show like every episode.
The show has always been at least borderline misogynist, but it takes it to a higher level with the movie. Eric was always the character you could root for, the most non-douchebag of the group (excluding Vince, who seems like a nice guy, mostly because he doesn't have to do much), but the movie turns into a complete asshole and almost recognizable from the character on the show.
That restaurant scene between him and the two women he recently had sex was awful, and is probably the worst scene that didn't have Haley Joel Osmond or Billy Bob Thornton in it. Turtle gets a romantic subplot; again, TURTLE gets a romantic subplot.
Why does the writer think ANYONE in the world likes Turtle, I'll never understand it. I swear that whole terrible tequila subplot that makes him a millionaire on the show was just a giant "Fuck You' to fans of the show.
As I've already kind of said, the scenes with Osmond and Thornton are horrible; it's not the actors faults, but the writing for them is just so bad. The lame attempts that pass for comedy are also poorly written and extremely strained.
Stick to TV, fellas.
