Review of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) by Sylvia Q — 10 Aug 2009
I find it quite entertaining to see how these guys could pull off the biggest scam in Fortune 500 history over the American public, the California electricity consumers, the stock market and the Bush appointed SEC "regulators" who were asleep at the wheel while chanting the "free and unregulated markets" mantra.
It's so true that money and power corrupts and that that corruption can be taken to the next level of being infectious enough to buy the influence of top flight accounting firms, banks and even stock analysts.
The way they created all those rolling blackouts and manufactured the shortages to drive up prices only then to re sell it back to California once the price is high is just pure genius... Reminds me of that other trading film, Boiler Room, only this really happened.
