Review of Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (2005) by Eric R — 29 Jun 2010
I've been putting off watching this documentary, mostly because I already know how criminal and sleazy people can be when it comes to money, but I am glad that I fianlly watched this one.
It really puts that mysterious world of financial dealings into some understandable format for us common folk (victims?) and really left me with a sense that, this epidemic of greed can't be limited to a few corporate boardrooms, has to be more widespread than we think.
Uncovering this rock likely sent all the other cockroaches scurrying for cover until a generation or two when a new type of swindler learns how to use the loopholes to take what they can and leave destruction in thier path.
It wasn't all discouraging however, there is a fascinating example of one unassuming and modest reporter uncovering the scandal and bringing it to the public, despite huge personal risk to herself and her career.
Really, it was like looking into the eerie and decadent minds of the devils minions. And it left me very cold to the human condition indeed.
