Review of Enemy at the Gates (2001) by Meara L — 15 Nov 2008
This is "real war" for those who never experienced it, I've read that many Russians were offended by this film.
A French-American director that doesn't know shit about what really happened in Stalingrad.
Then again it's entertaining, it's based on a true story. The acting is okay, although some characters where used more as a sustain to the plot than an actual personality.
In the past I have displayed my anger and dislike for this film on here. My opinion has not changed. This movie is a Fantasy based in an Alternate Reality with no facts to back it; Vasily Zaitsev was not a "Shepherd" before 1942, he was a Soviet Navy Non-Commissioned Officer serving in the Pacific Fleet, he was not illiterate as the movie suggests, in fact he wrote a short-story based on his Stalingrad experience in 1943.

It's as if an obsessed movie nut had decided to collect every bad war-movie convention on one computer and program it to spit out a script.
