Review of Enduring Love (2004) by Josh S — 11 Jun 2009
Daniel Craig is Joe, a sort of negative/nihilist intellectual professor with an awesome sculptor wife (Samantha Morton). There is a traumatic hot air-balloon attempted rescue & tragedy that they are involved in, and he's really messed up over the experience.
Meanwhile this unstable guy who was also involved, gets it in his head that Joe and him are in love, and Joe should stop hiding it, and Joe should leave his wife. It really messes with Joe's head because he's trying to deal with the tragedy still, and this crazy bastard uses that as an excuse to start stalking him.
The way they portray his internal process is really great. The baloon tragedy itself is done really really well too. There's a beautiful moment when they leave the ground, trying to hold the balloon down.
Great music, brilliant meaningful ways of cutting the shots together. The movie felt very rich, probably because of its being based on a full novel. Did I mention Samantha Morton is greatness. See it for the camera work, a few brilliant character interactions, or cause you like fatal-attraction-like thrillers (though I usually don't).
