Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Geoff G — 14 Aug 2008
The Director of "Rescue Dawn" is also known for his unique documentary films, last one being "Grizzly Man" "Encounters" explores the unknown world of Antarctica. What kind of people live there and what attracts them to this place? Philosophers, scientists and travelers mix and mingle (or not) is this desolate place which often feels like another planet.
Werner explores the wonders as if he were a 9 year old boy asking questions anyone of us would ask. He often lets the camera roll after an interview capturing spontaneious and sometimes humourous moments.
His uniquely comforting accented voice narrarates this nearly 2 hour documentary which at times seems to test our patience. There are images in this film of life under the Antarctic that are never seen and sounds never heard before.
If you can catch it at a local $2.00 theater go watch it, or just wait for the DVD.
