Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by K. L — 17 Aug 2008
Intermittently interesting is how I'd describe this Werner Herzog documentary. Every time he begins to lapse into a comical jaded view of the "civilization" he breaks out with some cool facts and nice cinematography.
I'd also propose he cut back on the sweepingly epic musical score in favor of some quite moments. I got the impression he wanted to make sure the watchers knew what was supposed to be breathtaking and serenely beautiful.
My main requirement for a documentary is that it teach something, then entertain. This one teetered on the edge for me but it's still worth a watch.
