Review of Encounters at the End of the World (2007) by Ross M — 20 Nov 2010
This is by no means a nature documentary. While Herzog does reveal a world unlike any most of us will ever experience in his images, this film tackles much larger issues relating to humanity's stake in the Antarctic.
Climate change, of course, but also the frivolousness of these so-called human achievements and the instability of mankind itself. I am such a huge Herzog fan, so it's no surprise that I loved this documentary.
Herzog has no fear of exposing his bias up-front and giving his unique take on one of the most remote regions on the globe.
