Review of Enchanted (2007) by Jc E — 27 Dec 2011
This was one of those movies that was just way too cute for its own good. Amy Adams (The Muppets) is a gem, and quite the singer. She becomes the cartoon character better than many could have imagined.
The whole movie is just seeping with unabashed goodness and accessibility. It takes the whole fairy tale notion and turns it on its head, while not losing sight of the magic. There's plenty to like, even if Patrick Dempsey (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) and Susan Sarandon (Shall We Dance) are in it.
James Marsden () is delightfully cartoonish, as is Timothy Spall (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II). Idina Menzel ("Glee") is quite underutilized, but isn't bad. The songs are somewhat catchy, but not as memorable as Carrie Underwood's "Ever Ever After".
The whole movie is one that can be enjoyed by the entire family - even those with cold hearts will have difficulty not smiling throughout this one.
