Review of Empire State (2013) by Tracy W — 23 Aug 2013
As a heist procedural I guess it kinda works, as a film supposedly based off a true story it hits all the points I guess, but that's just the problem. The film is just average, it goes through it's narrative as expected, the only notable performance is Michael Angarano, in the Eddie role, who is maniac, easily angered, spontaneous and extremely unlikable.
There are better films on the topic, notable is 2008's 'The Bank Job' with Jason Statham. Which also claims to be based off a true story, however that film benefited from good direction, a tight script and a wealth of humor.
This? Meh.
