Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Josh F — 01 Jan 2009
A different and interesting take on the WWII conflict. The story and performances are all strong and the film tells a tale that you rarely see in WWII related movies; so rare in fact that I didn't even know part of China was seized by the Japanese in WWII and English/American civilians were taken hostage.
It was interesting seeing Christian Bale act at such a young age too. The main problem with this movie is that while it is interesting, it doesn't really entertain you. The whole film moves very slow and has quite a bit of pacing issues.
I felt little to no emotion during this struggle too. The film is totally worth a watch and has some memorable moments, but I doubt I would want to see it again.
