Review of Empire of the Sun (1987) by Kory K — 18 Feb 2010
An epic film that deserved much more than it received. Oscars should've eaten this up. It is a very interesting film seeing the world of war through a child's perspective. What I thought was most fascinating was how the boy was a prisoner of war, yet he adored the Japanese Military and Air Force regardless of what they were doing to him (not that he really understood).
That really brought out the boy's innocence. Brilliant script and direction and everything else that the Oscars snubbed.
