Review of Emperor (2012) by C H — 29 Mar 2013
I see a lot of people have given this negative reviews because it is not 'exciting' enough. Sometimes important moments in history are not terribly exciting they just happen. I thought this told a relatively unknown (unknown to the general non-historically read people that is) story about the occupation of Imperial Japan by General MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones) immediately following the surrender.
Matthew Fox does a good job as Brigadier General Bonner Fellers who's job it was to determine the Emperor's ultimate responsibility in the war. I wish we had delved more into the politics of why Japan went to war rather than the flashbacks of Gen.
Feller's lost love, but it was still a good movie and I learned something new about World War II.
