Review of Emelie (2016) by Chase T — 17 Oct 2018
The whole thing didn't make any sense to me. First of all, the babysitter's character goes from being a sadistic sociopath who makes the children watch their own parents making whoopee on a video cassette (which was disgusting and totally unnecessary, and was only there to try and shock viewers, but I found it awkward and disturbing, and whoever decided that it would be a good idea to put in a movie should never work in the film industry again), to all of a sudden being the type to need to take someone else's child because she lost hers some time prior.
Why does her character change so much? A sociopath would not want to take someone's child, and someone who desires to take someone's child would not be a sadistic sociopath. Maybe some other mental illness but not the type of character she displayed in the beginning.
And what was that black child doing all night hiding in a tree fort? The second battle with Maggie was unnecessary and anticlimactic. In didn't have a purpose. At first we thought it was so Jacob would have a chance to lay down the stick on her head but that never happened.
It was excruciatingly disappointing. And of course she gets away at the end. A movie of this crappy caliber would not have it any other way. Too many cliches and I've seen similar movies that were a lot better on Hallmark channel.
All in all, a pretty unmemorable movie. Actually I will remember it, for how badly made it was.
