Review of Elysium (2013) by Eric K — 16 Nov 2014
The premise of the film held great potential, so it was with equally great disappointment that I watched in dismay as superficial treatment was given to most of the film's elements, from painfully obvious plot devices, to one-dimensional characters and ludicrously hyperbolic action sequences. The only thing that escapes is the scenarios and visual effects, where great attention to detail make a very believable future Earth as well as Elysium.
All in all, it felt like it had everything to be a great film with a powerful message, and a stellar cast to deliver it, but the poor execution made it almost cartoonish and missed the opportunity to underline its message in a more memorable way.
