Review of Elysium (2013) by Xavier C — 28 Jan 2015
There should have been more action. It has a lot of interesting underlying themes and parallels to modern society, and those are nice, but some nice action sequences would have made the movie a little more captivating.
I found myself losing interest from time to time. It feels like the film is setting up to have a lot of combat by giving the main character awesome weapons and an exosuit, but he barely uses them. The main character is well done and developed, but not the action hero he could have been.
That makes it a lot less re-watchable. It's not a bad movie, though. If you like not-so-subtle social commentary and political undertones, which I do, there's a lot of good substance.
