Review of Elle (2016) by Jim S — 07 Feb 2017

I had high hopes going into the theater based on the the director's previous work and the trailer. However 130 minutes later I was left wanting, disappointed and slightly confused as to the entire plotline.

Isabelle Huppert played a very interesting character and I believe that she gave every bit the performance that the director asked for, but at times the story just doesn't make sense. There were enough plot holes to make this script look like swiss cheese instead of a fine smooth buttery french brie that I was expecting.

Visually shocking at times, but ultimately this appears to be a work of art that is only self-serving for Verhoeven.
