Review of Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) by Greg C — 11 Jan 2012
I am actually surprised this movie received such underwhelming reviews â" I really enjoyed it. In some respects it was not as strong as its predecessor, particularly in terms of story and script; however in other ways this was the grander and more impressive film.
Cate Blanchett steals the show, of course. And while it's unfortunate that the ending did not live up to the narrative promise of the film (indeed, the entire third act seemed more of an exciting footnote rather than the natural resolution of the story -- a sure sign of a troubled script), I still came away having love the experience of the movie.
And ultimately, that's what it's all about.
