Review of Elizabeth Blue (2017) by Julie J — 28 Sep 2017
I was invited to a SAG screening last night and decided to go last minute. I'm so happy I did.
My brother is mentally ill and this film unlike a Beautiful Mind or Silver linings playbook sugar coated mental illness. The director himself said when he was making his film, it was important to him not to sugar coat the story or the illnesses.
He doesn't. It such an honest and truthful tail of mental illness. I'm still thinking about it. I wanted to ask a question but I was so intrigued by the film maker I couldn't. The manner he spoke about mental illness and the way he delivered it to the audience with passion left me for a loss of words. this filmmaker needs to be recognized for this work of art.
I don't know if the director does public speaking about mental illness, but he should. I would listen all day.
Back to the film. BEAUTIFUL! The lead actress Anna Schafer has my vote 100%. Her performance grabs you from the very second we see her face.
I must look and see what other films she has been in.
The cinematography was Beautiful it opens with a unreal handheld shot that seems to never end.
The score and original music were perfect. The filmmaker explained he chose songs that went against the grain of the scene. Another brilliant move.
The actor who played one of Elizabeth's hallucinations was also there (Christopher Ashman) For the short time he is on screen he is exquisite. I hope his name is on the ballot for the nominating committee because he has my vote hands down. He was deserves notice.
Job well done to everyone involved in Elizabeth Blue! 5 stars! go see it!!
