Review of Elf (2003) by Robert M — 12 Dec 2014
"You're not a cotton headed ninny muggins, you're just...special." A classic Christmas comedy. This is also one of my first movies when I was younger with Will Ferrell doing a major part.
The rest of the actors were also good, including Bob Newhart as Papa Elf (and even the guy who played Ralphey from A Christmas Story as one of the elves in this movie!). It's a funny plot about a human raised by elves who grows up at the sweet and cheerful (but secret) place known as the North Pole, and who then heads to the more ultra-modern, upscale, slightly dangerous place known as the big city (NYC).
Strange for the elf at first, but he eventually fits into it more as time goes by. The movie as a whole turns out as a comedy for the most part, but it's also got some touching spirit and joy (like Stepbrothers, but more Christmasy).
Some of the music in the intro and background of the film were pretty neat, plus the animated characters were also "cool" as well at the North Pole. A good holiday classic during my younger years.
