Review of Elf (2003) by Phil H — 16 Mar 2015
Elf is a hilarious Christmas film that I could watch again and again. This is one of the few comedies I can watch multiple times and still die laughing. Almost every joke is a hit, with some clever writing to accompany it.
Will Ferrell is great as Buddy the elf, embracing the ridiculousness of his character. The story is unique and the supporting cast all does a good job. It is one of those films that is always entertaining, and demands yet another viewing with each Christmas.
It's also one of the most quotable movies I have ever seen. The climax is a bit silly, and the movie isn't perfect. But it's a movie about an Elf from the North Pole, did you expect it to have a great story? It's littered plot holes, but the movie itself is so entertaining and clever you really don't care.
It's a well made and hilarious Christmas classic. I can't deny how much fun I had with Elf. Elf gets 4/5 stars (B+).
