Review of Elevator to the Gallows (1958) by Graham F — 25 Aug 2007
Solid suspense noir with complex scenario that really pays off in the end. Will be rememebered mainly because of musical score by Miles Davis, but I don't think Malle utilized it well enough. It's used only sparingly, at one point even in a throwaway, diegetic manner when it's music on the radio that's turned down by one of the actors! Still, when it's heard it works.
Flixter's info for the date of this film is wrong - Criterion says it was released in 1957. Recommended.
