Review of Elephant (2015) by Richard C — 25 Jul 2009
Saw it when I was still in high school, and it scared me because there were more than enough outcast losers at my school, and I live in America where emotional repression is caused due to some over protection/carelessness.
This film was the first Van Sant picture that marked an interest in his work from my part. Either he matured in these few years since his previous slow-paced dramas, or he was truly inspired by other auteurs. It is chronicling and that's where it hits people. It's where it hit me. All of this is realistic and you witness it. innocence is robbed. What's personal is taken away from you and it's irretrievable. It's depressing, affecting and moving and I didn't expect much out of it except for slow-paced drama shenanigans. Shocking.
