Review of Elephant (2015) by Jiana W — 29 Jul 2011
I was nowhere near impressed with this film. It seemed to try to answer the "Why?" of school violence and what makes kids go on murder sprees. The movie has a nice premise but the execution is poor and anti-climatic. There are also some nonsensical and unbelievable moments. One in particular comes to mind, when one kid actually approaches one of the shooters as he's standing over one of his victims. If you see somebody with a GUN standing over a body, why would you approach that person? Another moment is when one of the shooters kills the other. Interesting take.... but why? Why did he shoot him? No answer.
This movie does little if anything to explore the psyches of high school killers. At least not satisfactorily. Highly over-rated with a dumb ending. Watch something else.
