Review of Electroma (2006) by Wesley B — 22 Nov 2008
What starts out as a Kubrick tribute/art-house exercise in 70's sci-fi kitsch ends up bringing you to a completely different place entirely. This was not meant to be a companion piece to any of Daft Punk's albums.
It is Daft Punk expressing themselves in film form, which has a vastly different energy than their music. There are a few long scenes, but if you're willing to watch a movie about robots with no dialogue, you should be able to handle it.
They are certainly not as grueling when compared to something like Cremaster II or the Brown Bunny. The feeling I get is that Daft Punk is trying to grow beyond their career as dance music producers. Let's try to grow along with them.
