Review of Election (2005) by Ryan V — 15 May 2012
Matthew Broderick plays Jim McAllister, a well-liked teacher at an Omaha high school. His personal and professional anxieties find an outlet in Tracy Flick (Reese Witherspoon), a pretty and popular student running for class president.
Tracy's ugly history with McAllister compells him to sabotage her election campaign and this results in nasty repurcussions for all. This sharply written teen comedy uses black humor to satirize both politics and the culture of ruthless ambition.
Broderick and Witherspoon deliver great performances, but they're well supported by the witty script and capable supporting cast.
