Review of Election 2 (2006) by Isaac B — 17 Nov 2007
Better than the first one. While Election 1 was an interesting look at the dog-eat-dog struggle within the Triad society, it felt ultimately procedural and was a bit lacking in emotional punch. However, the sequel brings more character development and depth.
However, that isn't too say it's lost some of its ruthless edginess. In fact, it's a bit more darker, brutal, and forgiving than its predecessor. The violence is portrayed with unglorified brutality, and one particular scene will leave quite an impression on you (without spoiling much, it involves dog food).
Performances are also top-notch, with the highlight being Louis Koo, who plays Jimmy with such effortless coolness and coldness. All in all, I can't wait for Election 3 (if there ever will be one).
