Review of Election (1999) by Andrew C — 01 Mar 2008
Awesome film. I have always avoided it for some reason, maybe I saw a trailer and thought it was just going to be a generic teen high school comedy when it is so much more than that.
Matthew Broderick has fun playing the teacher, a complete turnaround from his Ferris Bueller Days heh. Reese Witherspon - what can I say? She is a truly amazing actress and shows it here in one of her earlier performances playing the pyschopathic straight a student who has dreams of making it to the very very top no matter what it costs or who gets in her way - this time it is Chris Klein, a popular athlete who runs against her in the school election after Broderick's teacher encourages him to.
Written and Directed by Alexander Payne who also brought us 2006's hit 'Sideways' the film is always full of biting wit and outrageously funny scenes - anyone remember the wasp sting? Or Tracy tearing all those posters down heh.
I might end up buying this one next time it comes in at a cheap price :D.
