Review of El Topo (1970) by Morgan O — 20 Jan 2010
Not as good, or even as interesting, as I was expecting it to be.
I suppose it was mind-blowing for the time but the film's allegorical method of narrative has aged quite poorly.
Starts off kinda like SHOGUN ASSASSIN meets SARAGOSSA MANUSCRIPT but heads steadily downhill from then on. After an hour and 30 minutes I'd pretty much lost interest.
Some nice visuals though, and it's still miles more intriguing and rewarding than most Hollywood fodder.
Worth watching.
