Review of El Topo (1970) by Matthew J — 08 May 2011
It's totally understandable why people (viewers and critics alike) are so divided on this film. The images Jodorowsky presents here are some of the most surreal, beautiful, grotesque, disturbing and provocative ever put to screen.
Personally, I greatly enjoyed this film for that very reason, as it delves into parts of your imagination you usually keep hidden, whether purposefully or not, and lets the viewer journey into their own personal philosophy and idealogy.
So, it's definitely not for the feint-hearted or closed-minded, but it remains on of the most original and imaginative film experiences ever.
