Review of El Cantante (2006) by Mairy S — 14 Nov 2007
Great Music but then, it all falls apart! A fan of Hector Lavoe since a young age as well as Lopez and Anthony. My problem with the film was how it was done and what it concentrated on. We all know there has been billions of films like these done.
But it was very cliche! Director Leon Ichaso could have done this piece so much better. It was told through a flashback as the movie starts and ends with an interview of Jennifer Lopez's character, so sad and so unoriginal.
I wish they would of focused less on the drugs and more on Lavoe, Salsa and the music! Also the movie had way , way, way too much lopez, I thought the movie was called 'EL CANTANTE" not El Cantante's wife.
What saves the movie was the music and when Marc Anthony sings the music of Hector Lavoe. Like I said, great music, I loved it but this movie could have been done better. Alot.
