Review of El Cantante (2006) by Kostas T — 30 Nov 2011
I'm sorry but how come they always have associate latinos as crackheads, pimps, gangmembers. As a latino myself I'm a bit offended. There is much more to us then most people think. Let me stop and review this movie before I go crazy.
I understand that Hector Lavoe was a drug addict. Yeah I get it but why the hell are you going to focus on that. This is like watching every other biopic. The rise to fame, the downfall into drugs, then finally death or rehab. It's been done before. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the musical segments and Marc Anthony who dosen't have much acting experince was able to hold his ground.
However this movie did not show me anything that I would be proud of Lavoe's life. The movie Notorious showed us Biggie Smalls wants, fears and inspirations. Fine he did some bad things but we found out things about him that I think some people didn't know. If Lavoe was such a great man(which I think he his by the way) why did this movie didn't show me.
MP Grade C-.
