Review of Ek Tha Tiger (2012) by Sanya R — 19 Aug 2012
This tiger does roar and so does the tigress. Director Kabir Khan's third directorial post its much anticipated hype and expectations, strikes the right cord and announces its arrival loud and clear.
This racy, high octane romance thriller incontestably ranks as one of the best action movies of the recent times and definitely the best of Salman Khan till date. With the kind of vigour and substance induced by Kathrina into Zoya's character and also the slickly done chase scenes, the movie should have essentially been titled ek tha tiger aur ek thi tigress ;-).
The chemistry between them progresses in a neat pace and remain decently devoid of the usual boy meet girl dialogues and sloppy one liners. Kabir has effortlessly streamlined the love story ensuring to convey the intensity with very marginal dramatic elements .
A simple and straightforward furtherance of the plot with substantial support from a consummate cast of the likes Girish Karnad, Ranvir sheorey etc gives the right pitch to build the script. Salman sleepwalks through the role with much modishness and the right amount of soberness.
The music is good and gives the right push. However the highlight of this power packed narrative does remain the exhaustively detailed and innovatively crafted stunt and chase sequences. Having watched ample movies recently with those handful stunt extras dangling from rope harness and the slo mo taking eternity to end, this one is a refreshing change.
The screenplay though flashes a few pot holes, there are lot many edge of the seat moments and adrenaline pumping twists to cover it up. This tiger does live up to its name and bestows that masha allah feel.
