Review of Eighth Grade (2018) by Ty H — 31 Dec 2018
Eighth Grade might be one of the most authentic takes on Middle School life. The story of a girl who is just finishing eighth grade making YouTube videos while also being exceptionally shy, this film takes the viewer on a journey through childhood in 2017 by being both real and at times scarily accurate.
Bo Burnham shows that he has tremendous skill behind the camera as a director and has a very bright future ahead. The biggest issue with the film is that it is labeled as a comedy and though it does have some funny moments it is mostly a drama about the anxiety and horrors of young life.
With that being the case I give this film a solid B.
