Review of Eighth Grade (2018) by Darren M — 08 Dec 2018
TERRIBLE. So sick of these pretentious "realistic" films that go nowhere and say nothing. Yet, this is what these idiot critics today fall for. I had to stop this stupid thing twenty minutes in, after seeing 1) an 8th grader jerking off under his shirt to his cell phone images, during a sex education class in such an obvious way that the whole class noticed.
I've never heard or seen anything like such an event in my entire life. 2) The band director, a man, had the world's longest mullet, which was shot from the back so we could see it in all its glory for about a full minute.
Something so ugly should never be in a film, and if such a sick hair style could ever be allowed on a faculty member, it would still be considered torture for the students to behold every day. 3) A boring montage of the girl's cellphone social media pages as she lay in bed, with an awful song on the soundtrack.
for about 3 minutes, just 15 minutes into the film. I knew then that the writer had ZERO interest in moving any plot along, because there would be no plot. That's when I stopped it. I gave THREE CHANCES, but three strikes and I'm out.
Pathetic start of a film. I can't imagine it gets much better. And the girl is ANNOYING as hell and really nasty to her wonderful father. And she's stupid too. Her videos she makes for her channel are terrible and say absolutely nothing, just like the film.
