Review of Eighth Grade (2018) by Kevin L — 29 Jul 2018
A very insightful and human deep dive into the psyche of 13 year old Kayla Day played magnificently by Elsie Fisher. The film and the character engaged me in a way few do - you root wholeheartedly for Kayla to break through and break out of her social media bubble.
Her dad is played deftly by the under-rated Josh Hamilton. His parental pep talk at he end of the movie with Kayla was very moving Director Bo Burnham captured teenage angst and wonderment on par with John Hughes, .
.perhaps even better. In my top three films of 2018 but I fear this will face the same fate of last year's The Florida Project and be shunted aside come Oscar time and that is a shame. Gucci! (7-29-18).
