Review of Eight Men Out (1988) by Lawrence D — 08 Jun 2008
An interesting look at arguably the greatest scandal in baseball history-- the fixing of the World Series by the 1919 Chicago White Sox. Not a prototypical sports movie, but still a very good sports movie.
My only quibble is the casting of David Strathairn as Eddie Cicotte; Strathairn is a great actor, but he couldn't play an uneducated country rube if you have him a lobotomy. His very appearance just screams "class".
Where's Woody Harrelson when you need him? Well, at the time this movie was made, probably on the set of Cheers, but still.
