Review of Eight Men Out (1988) by Jonathan P — 03 Jul 2011
A decent pick that just didn't mesh for me. The performances were good but the story wasn't well written. It was difficult to build up a relationship with the characters as they were thrust upon us at the very beginning and in the thick of the scandal.
It was also a bit of a burden on the viewer to keep track of who is who and who is in or out. If these obstacles were overcome towards the end if the show than the viewer was treated to an interesting view of one of baseballs saddest moments.
As a mediocre baseball fan only two names were familiar to me...Buck Weaver and "Shoe-less" Joe Jackson. With Joe Jackson being the most familiar name I was expecting the plot to revolve quite a bit around him yet very little was mentioned or shown.
It did enough to make me do some research on the internet (which is what a good bio-pic should do) but I felt it could have been much better.
